My first track day in the Cobra
My first track day made three things clear: the Cobra was not set up for the track, its tires were too hard, and I needed to build confidence behind the wheel.

What happened
I brought the 1994 SVT Cobra to Taste of the Track at Thunderhill Raceway West for my first experience driving on a road course.
The day exposed the difference between a capable street car and a car properly prepared for track use.
Instead of chasing speed, the day became a starting point for understanding the car and becoming more comfortable as a driver.
What I learned
- —The Cobra was not set up for the demands of the track.
- —The tires were too hard to provide the grip and feedback I needed.
- —Confidence has to be built deliberately through seat time, preparation, and experience.
The car
A black 1994 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra. It arrived as a street-focused car and left with a clear list of changes needed before asking more of it on track.
The people
Taste of the Track gave me a welcoming first look at track driving and a place to begin learning the routines, expectations, and pace of a real circuit day.
From the day

Next improvement
Choose track-appropriate tires, improve the car's setup, and return for more seat time with confidence as the goal before speed.
